Porcelain Veneers

What makes a smile beautiful? That’s a complex question, but some qualities of a lovely smile are immediately identifiable: good tooth color, shape and orientation to one another, for example. If your teeth fall short in any of these categories, porcelain veneers might be just what you’re looking for.

You may already know that a veneer is a thin covering over another surface. In dentistry, a veneer is a wafer-thin layer of super-strong porcelain that convincingly substitutes for natural tooth enamel. When bonded to your teeth, veneers can create a natural-looking, beautiful new surface. That’s because porcelain, like natural tooth enamel, is translucent, strong and resistant to erosion. Best of all, porcelain doesn’t stain.

Porcelain veneers offer an excellent solution for correcting poor tooth color, small or medium spaces between teeth, imperfections in tooth position (slight rotations, for example), poor shape, and even some minor bite-related problems. If you have a grinding habit that has worn down your teeth, porcelain veneers can create a dramatic improvement in your appearance.

We will work with you and our skilled laboratory technicians to select a shade of porcelain that’s just right for you. The lab will construct your veneers from a porcelain powder mixture that becomes hard when fired in an oven. Several layers of porcelain are built up to mimic the natural translucency (see-through quality) of tooth enamel. The finished veneers are then bonded on to your teeth.
